Definitely not Jimmy Garoppolo’s best performance, this.
After a genuinely awful and avoidable safety during a low-key Sunday Night Football game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Denver Broncos, Garoppolo cemented his place in NFL history. In the third quarter, the 49ers were leading 7-3 and San Francisco was stuck in their zone on second and 10, trying to escape and increase their lead.
Sadly, it was not to be as Garoppolo attempted to elude two Broncos defenders on a ball but pulled a Dan Orlovsky and walked out of the back of the end zone for a safety.
The white line in the back of the end zone was touched by Garoppolo’s feet before he delivered the ball, and this is visible on the tape as plain as day. Following the performance, Orlovsky tweeted his justification for Garoppolo’s unfortunate incident.
